W4FG 160 Meter Directional Array

I am a Broadcast consulting engineer, I have been playing with some of my Directional Antenna Design software looking for a good 160 Meter vertical radiator design with a large -3db down coverage area. The array below has majority power take off angles from 0 or ground level up to around 30 degrees, very good for DXing.

Below is the design for a 180 degree wide -3db down patern. This 2 radiator design has low feedpoint resistances and low reactances (easy to match) and radiator current in each radiator is 10 amps or less.

This is the second satisfactory design I have come up with. This design has higher base drive resistances and is more stable than the previous design. I am still working with more ideas and will post new studies as satisfactory results are obtained.

W4FG experimental 160 Meter Pattern Polar Plot, -3db points at 270 and 90 degrees respectively.

With 1,500 watts input to the array the ERP at 0 Degrees (straight up on Polar print out or due North) is 4,280 watts (+4.55 db gain), at 180 degrees (straight down or due South on Polar printout) ERP is less than 10 watts (-26.3 db Front to Back), now that's some front to back ratio!

NOTE each circle on Polar Plot equals 200 Mvm/Km main pattern, 20 Mvm/Km in magnified area showing null details at bottom of plot.

W4FG data printout of experimental Pattern, -3db points at 90 and 270 degrees respectively, Greater than 80 degree Wide Null in back of array!
